About

Kyle Newbridge

Kyle Newbridge creates comics and stories with a flair for the melancholy. His two current biggest projects are both comics: Of This Light, a numinous horror-epic and The Punchline is Death, a dark humor autobiography.

His job as an artist is to guide you deep down into the darkness and deliver you safely to the other side. Everything he creates is designed to instill strong feelings of despair, worry, or fear, but always promises catharsis at the end of the journey. His goal is to help his audience face their trauma and anxiety to find new paths to healing.

A core component of Kyle’s storytelling is the direct correlation of internal struggle with external conflict. His characters perspective on their situation always has far more impact on their journey than any actual physical limitations. His artwork is the result of a life-long manga obsession mixing with an American studio-art education. Using digital tools, he applies the intense expressiveness allowed by simplified manga-inspired characters with atmospheric depth from the study of chiaroscuro and other baroque techniques.

Through his writing and his art, he gives his audience tools to self-examine and process their own trauma – without discounting it. Throughout his life confronting my sadness has always been the best way to fight it, and he hopes his artwork can help others in the same way.
